Neil Young's Guitar

old-black-cu.jpg
Over on the forum Guitarramania.com (in spanish), some great photos of Neil's guitar Old Black. This Neil Photo of the Moment is amazing, with guitar tech Larry Cragg showing the extreme wear and abuse which Old Black has suffered over the years from "Hurricane", "Down by The River", and other feedback laden finales that leave him lying in shreds on the stage floor.

Visually, Neil's Gibson 1953 Gold Top Les Paul is the electrical equivalent to Willie Nelson's battered "Trigger" -- his well-worn Martin acoustic guitar.

More photos and articles on Neil's guitars, the latest Thrasher's Wheat Neil Young Page of the Moment.

I don't think I've ever seen such a worn-out electric, that was still in use as a main axe. A whole career of albums played out on that guitar! A-Mazing.

The guitar must be male, because you can't abuse a woman like that.

SRV would abuse and beat up his guitar onstage, as well as play on it really hard.

Neil thrashed his guitar by JUST playing on it, he doesnt lpay particularly violently nor does he smash the thing into the ground or throw it off of walls like SRV did

not knocking on SRV, i am a big fan of his ;-)

Was this clone taken from an original stem cell? This puts a whole new meaning to "When God made me". Oh, doh! That was an acoustic! But was it original? Oh,man I'm confused now....

As far as most worn by playing, does the name Rory Gallagher mean anything?
