Fresh NYA BD Live Download Now Up - #5
Another fresh NYA BD Live download is now available.
We haven't pulled it yet but will do so soon. We're hearing that it's vintage Buffalo Springfield and some other goodies. We guess that sometimes the rent is always due maybe?
Hopefully, this satisfies those who have been clamoring for more NYA BD Live downloads.

In other news on a variety of issues including Dreamin Man, Toast, NYA#2 and BD Live, Archives Guy commented on Dreamin' Man thread:
There will be no DVD or Blu-ray versions of "Dreamin' Man". This release is CD, vinyl and iTunes only.
Recorded during our "We Like To Record Digitally" phase, there is no analog master for this record, therefore no Hi Rez transfer for BD or DVD.
The new [BD-Live] stuff that you get helps to tell that story and is made a bit more personal and in depth by Neil's writings in the Post-Informer.
I'm pretty darn sure that the next download will be something unique that none of you have.

For those of you thinking ahead (or back as the case may be) about NYA Vol2...production is in full swing and the content is AWESOME. The sheer volume of unreleased songs in Vol2 is staggering and a joy to listen to.

As far as i know, there's only one new download - "The Rent"....am i missing something?
Now that AG's comment is interesting. Does it mean that this stuff (and the records of this period) is recorded only in CD quality? That'd be pretty bad indeed. While can be proved that CD quality is about the best that you can distinguish with your ears (lookup Nyquist-Shannon in Wikipedia), it's a whole different story when it comes to the recordings themselves. They need to be much higher quality because during the mixing and mastering process, it looses lots of information.
And no, I don't generally consider analog to be better than digital. In my opinion it is not a matter of analog vs digital, what mostly matters is how well mastered a recording is. Vinyl is a very limited format, as is CD, but both are technically more than good enough for human ears. Bad mastering can kill the fun on both media (see many typical 80's vinyls or CDs).

Yay!!!!!!!!! I so absolutely cannot wait for this. If it's anything like Sleeps with Angels (dark, moody Crazy Horse!!!!!!), it's going to be totally awesome.

At this point, I'd take Trunk Show on VHS tape, if that's the only way I'd get to see it.
With regards to concern of quality to early digital recordings/transfer, many comments on both Thrasher and Rust are making an assumption that technology is static.
Between now and the release, some amazing breakthrough may happen.
In anticipation to NYA2, if not 2010, 2009? : D

I just hope Neil doesn't wait for that technological breakthrough to happen before releasing it ... I'd be happy to have him release it as is, and re-release it in the future if and when that breakthrough happens ... lets not forget that one of the biggest factors behind the archives delay was technological limitations ... i'm hoping we're past that ... archives 2 is sure to be amazing if it cant be a '10 event sure hope it comes out by early '11 ... in the interim lots to be excited about

i won't be staying up late at night waiting for this set.
i've learned from past mistakes committed over the last 3 decades.

Around '78 is when I got hooked on Neil. Love the Geffen Years! Does the Archive guy or anyone know when "Archives 2" might be out?

My understanding would be that you could still make this available in Bluray or DVD Video, but as it cant be High Res in either format Neil is not comfortable releasing it due to the reduced quality??
If CD is all I can get - so be it,and I will buy that.
A while ago, somewhere (I think it was in SH-forum) AG mentioned a blu-ray release of the four remasters. Could you tell a bit more now on possible release dates, AG. Thanks in advance.

Hey A.G. Thanks for your insights (sometimes lucid, sometimes nebulous)
Suggetsion: for all its sonic superiority, a problem with Blu-Ray is it's not in my cars and doesn't seem like it will be soon.
Why doesn't Neil develop an in- dash Blu-Ray audio player.
Or buy a car company, and reconfigure their designs to inlcude Blu-Ray (I realize that's a step donw from owning a train company....)

I read an artcile online the other day. Estimates indicate that by the end of the year there will be 36 million blurayers in use, at the same time after DVD release, there were 9 million.
On Amazon currently the bluray version of archives is $238 US. A bit over $20 US dearer ($238) than the DVD version .
I just picked up the Who live at Killburn Bluray for 13.99 US . Cheap as chips !
More amd more musicians and movie studios are taking advantage of Bluray and BD live features everyday.

Well, one thing is clear:
if dreamin' man won't be on dvd or blu-ray, it won't be on archives.
So I've downloaded the new BD-Live Archives item, but haven't had a chance to check it out. Can anyone confirm what it is and which disc it's on? Thanks!
BTW--as much as I love Archives 1, Archives 2 should be the real s***. On The Beach/Zuma/Rust Never Sleeps are some of my favorite discs. That edition is going to rock. Who knows--maybe it will include Time Fades Away?
