Nice photo gallery of Neil Young at Paris Zénith, Paris, France, June 4th, 2009 by Guino Patrice on RockerParis.

Thanks Guino!

  • Upon release in 1982, TRANS was pretty much assailed by both fans and critics.

And -- like so much of Neil's '80's work - it has slowly come back in vogue. Particularly in the dark post 9/11 days.

So here's a rather clever animation of "We R in Control" by Christian Madsen of Villainous Turtle Cinema, who made this in 2004 for a talent show in his senior year of high school.

More on TRANS and TRANS videos on The Cedar Lounge Revolution.

  • A rather remarkable story on a mega rare item listed on eBayof a After The Goldrush acetate:
I purchased this item from Jeff Gold, former Executive Vice President/General Manager of Warner Bros. Records and Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services at A&M Records, who has been collecting records for nearly 40 years. Jeff is a highly knowledgeable individual regarding the music industry and was profiled by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top collectors of high-end music memorabilia in the world.

According to Jeff 's account from Joel Bernstein (musician, rock & roll photographer and good friend of Neil Young), Neil and Joel were at Neil's ranch going though Neil's vast amount of vinyl. Apparently, Joel was helping Neil sort vinyl into a save pile and a discard pile. Jeff's understanding was that Neil tossed this acetate in the discard pile, from which it was then salvaged by Joel. Jeff Gold bought it from Joel, I bought it from Jeff, and such is the history of this unique collectible.

    Thanks Robert!

Yay, Trans!!! Woo! I love Trans. Took me a long time, but eventually it just happened one day. I realized it's a work of unparalleled genius.

Unfortunately it was so far ahead of its time, that only in the 21st century, 20+ years after its release, are people beginning to understand it at all.

Just goes to show how far ahead of the pack Neil Young is, and has always been.

While this acetate is real and valuable, the backstory of how it was found etc isn't exactly true and accurate...sez Joel Bernstein.

Archives Guy, good to see you are still around!

Do you have any updates on the release of the First 4 on Blu Ray? Also what about Fork on Blu Ray? I have been hanging out on picking these up until the Blu Ray versions are released.

    Cheers!

Trans is EXCELLENT Neil! I've always loved that album - "Mr. Soul" redux, "Like an Inca", "Computer Age" - it's a great ride. (The Sonic Youth cover of "Computer Age" is also fantastic.) I actually prefer Neil in his exploratory phases rather than in (what I consider to be) his sometimes formulaic rehashing of past glories. I wouldn't mind an updated Trans right about now though.

I'll be the guy who submits that he'd rather listen to hip hop (from twenty years ago, apparently, lol) than CMT. :D

But... Neil on guitar? Good work, dad!!

That video for We R In Control kicks butt.Maybe it's the video but the song's not bad.I like the song Transformer Man unplugged. That would be cool if Neil played and recorded the whole Trans album unplugged.

Transformer Man in both variations is awesome to me.

I love the unplugged version, as it proves that these songs aren't really as weird as people think, and it's great to hear it in that real, unpolished Neil voice.

I love the album version because the strange vocoder and electronic instrumentation just creates this strange, uncomfortable, isolated feeling while managing to be very pretty at the same time.

I'd also love to hear the whole album unplugged. I also wish we could hear the original vision of what Trans was supposed to be before it was compromised.

But still, it's a fantastic album to listen to. Even the contrast created by the organic recordings vs. the electronic recordings (I believe an effect of the watering down of the album and loss of the original vision) creates a fantastic dichotomy if you listen to it from beginning to end.
