Well haven't got a setlist, but my best mate was kind enough to phone me twice during the performance (cheers) and im sure I heard Unknown Legend, and A Day in The Life for encore. Roll on Aberdeen on the 24th!

So...whatever happened to Fork In The Road? Lol! Nobody here mentions it anymore...Neil has all but dropped the songs. I think the 4% club was right - it was a big mistake that looks like being as quickly forgotten as it should have been! New is always better huh?

hey anonymous...you might be in the 4% club..don't you know by now, anything neil creates is a mistake.
Your timing is off. come back in 500 years, wait...
no don't come back...96% of us think what you said
is a mistake...this setlist is awesome so is fork in the

what about the supporting band of this show ?
I read somewhere that's a young folk singer woman named Laura Marling 'll open it in France and England.

I'm gonna see Neil in few days in Paris (4 june)and yestyerday received my Archives box (DVD): it'll be an Neil's Week !

The third song was "Are You Ready for the Country?". Not an excellent show, methinks. He seemed a bit tired and his voice was "waking up" for the rest of the tour. Great to hear Cortez and DBtR alive. "Get Behind the Wheel" had people wildly dancing around me, and that's mean something. The new take on "Pocahontas" really rocks. Neil didn't say much, just a few words. All the newspapers had promised a 150m show and it was barely 90m, including the encore. Sadly, a third of the audience was not interested in the show as they were talking with their backs to the stage.

90 minute show ? thats a ripoff.
Neil knows people pay alot of $ for tix and expect at least 2 hours as thats what he has been doing. I'd be pissed !

Hey Anon, what do u mean nobody talkin' about FITR anymore? I mean, I'm still playing the damn thing over and over again, see if I can get used to it. By the way, what's all this about "Archives" coming out or something? ;-)
But seriously folks, be real about it, the whole excitement about the Archives proves the 4 % ers to have been right all along: FITR may be fun, at most, but this is what EVERY fucking Neil fan has realy been dying to hear (even if it includes JTTP, another nice tidbit about which we liked to whine in the old days...).

Noooooo! Not support! The AECC has a curfew of like 11pm! Laura Marling will no doubt play 8-8.30, it will take 30 mins + to set up and Neil will play for just under 90 mins!

I HATE WHINING but for goodness sake, £55+ for a STANDING ticket for 90 mins seems ridiculous!

As I say, I'm SOO SORRY to whine, I hate doing it, I'm grateful Neil is coming to Aberdeen at all, but 90 mins isn't really all that long... Springsteen normally doubles that at least!!! C'mon Neil, show 'em how it's done!!!!

PLEASE!!!!! :(

So all the concerts of this tour are going to be of that length? I though that the reduced duration of yesterday's show was due to being part of a festival... A bit disappointing, even if it was still very good, with great versions of 'Mansion On a Hill', 'Cortez the Killer' and 'Down By the River'.

At 5/31/2009 04:35:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think you guys are confusing quantity for quality.. It was a little over 90 minutes but the performances, the sound, the energy Neil showed was enormous. As someone said at the beginning it seemed difficult for Neil's voice to warm, but then he grew up to it and the performance was nothing short of brilliant. Neil seemed in a good humour and the setlist was pure gold. Could he have played more? Maybe, maybe he was tired, I don't know. But the concert was marvelous.

Ok, Bruce plays almost three hours, but who needs to hear yet again Born to run, Badlands, etc etc? I hope he doesn't play anything from Tunnel of Love at least..

At 5/31/2009 05:11:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This year I'm seeing Springsteen for the first time... So, um, I need to hear those songs "again". Along with the rest of the first-timers. I was lucky enough to see Neil twice last year, and am in no way doubting the quality, but he really doesn't need a support act to take up time beforehand, the man is legendary...

At 5/31/2009 05:14:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The setlist touched every base. Hell the version of "Down by the River" was worth the price of admission alone! And the full band versions (with bass, drums and steel) of "Heart of Gold" & "Old Man" absolutely gorgeous.

Too short? Maybe. It was a festival after all. But as the previous posts say quality not quantity.

Remember Neil Young hasn't played Barcelona in 22 years! The locals loved every moment. I wore my Continental Tour T-shirt I picked up in Hammersmith last year I had people coming up asking me where I got the shirt!

I'm only annoyed coz I found out today thet Neil's been in Barcelona for 2-3 days rehearsing for the tour just down the road from where I live!!

Don't leave it so long next time Neil.

I believe that the songs were cut short on purpose. RITFW had no "false" endings and there was not "aaaah" parts over feedback and noise at the end of ADITL. But you never know with Neil. He might play a 120m show tonight.

What a sharp observation, Anonymous. He also played one song off Harvest Moon, Freedom, Zuma, and Chrome Dreams II, each. Looks like Neil has forgotten those mistakes as well...

Hello Harry, I'm Ricardo, the man in the "famous" t-shirt. It was nice to meet you at the show. Hope you enjoy the next one. See you next year?

Don't forget, this was a festival set too (Sonic Youth were on after NY), hence the inclusion of many vintage songs. Either way, he got the biggest cheers of any act I saw over the three days there (which cost as much as two NY tickets and had lots of amazing acts), and everyone went nuts to RITFW and DBTR.

Hey Darth Dolt - the difference is of course that FITR is his most recent release, only months old. And it's not like he's ditched those songs for a bunch of newer ones.

Did anyone get any photos of Laura Marling's support slot in Nantes or Paris?

The concert was amazing and energetic throughout, but the aftertaste was a bit disappointing for me. There were a few songs that were always played over and over again between shows at Primavera, and Like A Hurricane (the song that got me into Neil Young) was one of them. I'd heard it so much during the first two days of the festival that I was absolutely sure Neil Would play it. However, he only played it a day later in San Sebastian. :(

i just saw neil young, at aberdeen.
and he played a two hour set, so this 90mins, must just be for festivals.

what a sold performance, for an old man, he still know how to rock.
