Archives Guy Q&A Continues This Week

We understand that Archives Guy will be conducting Q&A throughout the week, beginning on Tuesday.

So we'll plan to start a fresh thread each day for the Q&A.

The idea, according to AG, is to be available, in limited quantity, to answer archives questions and aid in making archives decisions.

AG requests that we don't ask why something is/is not included, when other releases are coming out, or why they decided to do x or y. This archives set is a ground breaking multi-media music release and the Blu-ray edition is utilizing that format in ways never seen before. Thru communication and straight answers, AG & Shakey Pictures believes that they can help you understand the set better, what it has to offer and how to best use it.

As AG posted to rust:
"The last thing that we here on the Archives team want to see is for fans such as yourselves to blindly go purchasing computer hardware and software, only to set yourself up for a disappointing experience."

Thanks Archives Guy!

And in atypical shameless promotion fashion -- and in keeping with our sell-out as a corporate whore -- if you decide to make a purchase of NYA, players, peripherals, etc., click on the Amazon link on right to go shopping. Once you click thru into Amazon, any purchases will generate a small commission for Thrasher's Wheat. You do not need to actually purchase the NYA from the link on right because once the link registers to Amazon, all items placed in cart are credited to TW.

Has anyone noticed that amazon.co.uk now has the archives being released 8th June??!!

Hi Sigma6
Warners U.K. have put the Archives release date back one week to 8th June. They claim delays in importing stock from the U.S. In the same email to U.K. stores they say the CD edition will be in very short supply and stores will not get the amount they requested. There will apparently be enough DVD and Bluray stock to supply all orders.
So sadly we will have to wait an extra week for hell to freeze over in merry England.

Thanks for the info Mike! I am from Australia and from all reports it looks like we won't even get the Blu Ray edition in stores here! Don't know how that fits in with Neil's vision...anyway I have decided to order from the States. FYI cheapest I have seen it is from DVD planet, $248.46 and free delivery in the USA!

http://www.dvdplanet.com/details.cfm/info/WEA099968

Plus if you use the coupon code "COUPONCABIN" you get an additional 5 bucks off!

Good luck.

I work in a record store so that's why I saw the email from Warners UK with the date change etc.
It seems there is a lot of confusion out in the trade as record shop owners don't read this blog and so don't have the advantage of Archive Guy's comments.
Many shops think the sets will be region coded and even our Warners rep didn't know the answer to that question.!! Given the high dealer price of the BD set shops are not going to invest in stock when the record company can't even tell them what region code the set is. Hence the confusion at Amazon.com etc. where they think it's a US code.
Luckily as a fan I've been following this blog and so could reassure our customers from A.G.s answers.
I suspect it the same for the stores in Australia , they just can't get good information from Warners.
It's nothing to do with Neil , his vision , or his people just poor communication between different parts of the distribution chain ...
If hardcore fans who read this blog are getting confused about the technology etc. then it's no surprise that the reps and stores don't have a clue what's going on.
cheers
Mike

Apparently Australia is only getting the DVD and CD versions and on 19 June. Someone really needs to get hold of the local Warner Brothers and to quote the Flamin' Groovies "Shake some action". Late late always bloody late. Does it take a plane 17 days to fly from the US? These guys are so 20th century that they will get the Edison rolls. Support your local independent import shop. I recommend Redeye.

Take care

Hey AG,

I was wondering how the load time is on the PS3. Roughly how long does the disk take to load to the main menu once you insert a disk?

Also, are there options to register our disks via BD-Live and if so, what are the benefits?

Lastly, how are you anticipating the demand for BD-Live? As an avid blu-ray user, I've witnessed several times that (movie) studio's have failed to accurately guage BD-Live demand for big hits (See Ironman and Hulk BD releases for BD-Live disasters, & Dark Knight for good results). This has led to server overload resulting in slow download times and server failure. Are you ready for everyone to hop on at once?

Thanks!

I'm kind of disappointed that only JTTP features DTS-HD Master 5.1 surround. I wish the other live sets included some surround sound too....I shouldn't be listening to clapping through my fronts. :(

Surround-

For there to be surround mixes for the live releases, there would have to be multi-track masters with audience mic tracks.

I'm huge surround fan, but ya can't use the recipe if the ingredients aren't there.

Nondo-

I'd have to get out a stopwatch, but the loading is fast...maybe 10-15 seconds after the opening greeting screen. That is quicker than on many other players.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the option question.

Our servers are ready, thank you.

At Gibert (Paris), the CD version will be sold for 120 euros...

Um, Archives Guy, thanks for stopping in to the Holiday Weekend online BBQ.

Question - will the Archives Book definitively clarify all of Neil's recording enadeavors e.g. such as the sessions with Jack Nietsche in '67?

And would something like the Screenplay (or excerpt from) for ATGR be considered as part of the Archives?

Folks-

I'll be back here on Thrashers tomorrow, Tuesday.
Please hold your questions until then. Anything posted today here won't get answered.

In general we don't know sales and marketing information, but will try and get some of the foreign market questions answered by the record company for you.

Supplies, pricing structures overseas, shipping dates just aren't part of what we are involved in.

Sorry for asking today, but I'll be away for a couple of days.

Will JTTP be the only dvd loaded with videos or will there be videos included in the "audio oriented" dvds just like on the Massey Hall dvd we got as performance series 2.

Thrasher or any TW visitor:
Can you do me a favour and ask the Archives Guy tomorrow if it is true that the first four NY albums will be released on 200 grams black gold. Think I did read it somewhere. If true are this really the first four NY albums or are these four albums from the Archives Volume 1 that have not been released on vinyl yet?

I won't be able to ask the question myself tomorrow because I am on the road again. Greetings from Germay.

Received the preview disk today. Unfortunately, no blu ray player in possession.
Think I'll buy a PS3, but with a 80GB hard disk, or should I go for the 160GB version.

As far as I know, Blu ray should be region free. If not, I hope WB sends me a European version (living in Belgium)
On the other hand... in two weeks(sat.06/07), I might ask Neil himself in Antwerp.

australians..im in a well know wee lil record store in melbourne and have a freindly healthy thing goin on with me warner rep..she will even ring my mobile when she gets info as she knows im a huge neil fantic..\so far only dvd/cd version will be released on 19june..although who knows..ive written and urged them that i mainly want the blu ray version..but still they say NO..this could always change..my usa supplier has shipped me a small handful of both versions for my regular neil fantics who live in melbourne,we will have it thurs or friday..who wants to wait for amazon etc deliveries which may take weeks and might get damaged..may advise to ausies is to go to your better indie store, there is one in most cities and get them to get it for you,if they dont already have it on the way.seeing as i buy bulk usa cd,s and dvd,s my stuff gets sent each week via fed ex and take 3 days to arrive....otherwise,if ya can wait until the 19th it will be out locally and quite a bit cheaper i imagine

Fellow fans, I think I can guess the answer (no) but can a blue ray disc be played in a CD rom drive or CD player? Thanks for any help.

Sorry, to clarify my question a bit more, is it possible to use the Blue Ray disc to hear audio out of a CD player until I purchase a BD player.
Thanks

Australian price for DVD set is $329 with release on June 19.What happens if Bluray is region coded and everyone who has ordered from U.S. and lives in countries with different regions it is never able to play it?

Archives guy has said on numerous occasions that the Archives are region free. On amazon it says they are not, but the info is incorrect.

Will all the songs on the BD/DVD discs be available to download, including the soundtrack to JTTP?

re the BD-Live, do you envisage that entire concerts will be made available? or will it only be one off audio files, tv performances etc?

One final reply here before I move everything over to the new thread.

Bastien- there is film/video content on every disc.

Germany/because sound matters. Yes on the vinyl for the 1st four albums. That's NY, EKTIN, ATGR, Harvest.
they are either 180 or 200 gram and sound AWESOME.

LucDr- 80GB should be good unless you plan on downloading a lot of games or other BD-Live for Hollywood movies and such. Thats what I use.

CD question- Blu-ray discs can only be played n a Bul-ray player...but those players also suport playback of DVDs and CDs.

Leroy- The mp3 download tracks mirror the tracklist of the CD set...no hidden tracks or JTTP tracks.
Yes, there may be concerts or parts of concerts available thru BD-Live. Wait and see.
