Happy 4th of July! Keep on Rockin' in the Free World!

RITFW on Saturday Night Live in September '89

More on what it means to be Rockin' In The Free World - and what it doesn't.

Last year at this time, Crosby Stills Nash & Young were getting ready to kickoff the Freedom of Speech tour.

This SNL performance is effing unbelievable! The man is so out on the edge he can barely control his body movements.

Patriot Act, Vice President, my ass ... those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety ...

When despair for the world grows in me, and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be -- I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought or grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

I love your post Wendall. I am young but am just reaching a point where I am turning away from all the noise and bullshit, looking for a bit of peace.

Thrasher, didn't know where to post this, but I just found an except of CSNY playing "Southern Man" from "Journey Through The Past!"

I rock and roll with Neil and find home base. This man from our neighbor to the north, is more USA than most. To me. To me, he is the red, white and blue. I was witness to the Freedom of Speak tour..thank you boys for singing it, thank you Neil for writing it. But my question is...Why did Stephen Still say he was F___king Embarrassed being in that band. Just read that about him going out on tour now. What? I would pound his ass with his own guitar for saying something like that. What does he mean? Embarrassed? Did I get it wrong? Stephen what did you mean? Nancy

nancy, stephen stills has a history of putting his foot in mouth... but his hands are free and that's all that matters if your one of the finest guitarists of rock and roll ... it just proves that most of these people are ... well ... people... flawed ... creative ... gift ... and flawed ....

.... didn't he call "crazyhorse" a garage band ... which in my mind is sort of a compliment ... don't you think?

Hmmmmmm. Wasn't it Stills who said Dylan was an average guitar player? I'd like to hear an explanation about that one.

There are three kinds of guitarists in my mind. Those who play the guitars, those who allow the guitars to play them, and then those who fall in between.

Anyone else surprised Neil wasn't part of the Live Earth concerts...being the environmentalist that he is?

Yes, I was very surprised he was not part of live earth

As for the drummer, that's Steve Jordan, who also played on the "Landing on Water" album.
