Swedish TV Interview with Neil Young

A really great interview with Neil was broadcast on television in Sweden last month. Here's the link for a video stream of the interview. (Note: A comment below indicates that the interview was originally on Norwegian television last year. Thanks!)

In the interview, Neil is asked to comment on his impressive discography. He calls the Ditch period album Tonight's The Night a "personal favorite -- but not a big seller".

At one point, Neil tosses his entire catalog into the air to demonstrate how ephemeral his whole career has been.

In a separate video clip, Neil discusses the Archives project and how selections were made based on ratings by valued listeners.

(Also, note the bag on the table. This looks like the same bag Neil performed with on Saturday Night Live in 2000.)

More interviews with Neil Young.

Thanks to Lou, Mike, BNB, HwyCDRrev & all else who sent the links!

I loved Neil's reaction when the interviewer called Freedom the "comeback" album :-) Thanks for posting the link.

Some great comments on his albums. I was surprised about what he said about TRANS. Not exactly my cup of tea, but based on Neil's comments, I'm going back for a re-listen.

Amazing interview.

I've always felt that Trans was underrated and misunderstood... but his comments on Broken Arrows really help me see that album in a new light, and give me a new appreciation for it.

The melodies and riffs behind the Trans songs are fantastic. Computer Age especially. Nice to Neil's take on his work. Never thought that was going to happen!

Oops, too early in the morning.
Should be "Nice to hear Neil's take on his work."

"Greendale lets me make five more albums" - I love how Neil thinks.

Freedom to create is paramount.

It was interesting to learn that David Briggs came up with "Ragged Glory". Briggs said "OK, let's hear it in all of its ragged glory". And the rest is history.

A great, candid interview with terrific footage. Those Sweedes really get into it. And Tonight's the Night is Neil's favorite...of course. I loved his theory of recording at the end. "My idea of perfection is imperfection." Beautiful.

Neil always seems so frustrated with interviewers, like they haven't a clue what his process is or appreciate his eagerness to move on. He usually comes across as very impatient - but sometimes he really should let them finish their thought, because it might make for a better interview. I think a lot of interviewers do not appreciate his singlemindedness to avoid being in any way "understood" - almost the worst thing an interviewer can do in a Neil Young interview is suggest that they understand and agree with something he says - it usually goes downhill from there.

Yes - parts of the interview were shown on Norwegian TV. But this is the final cut by the original Swedish interviewer, Magnus. The Norwegians just snatched his interview! ;-)
